Lore of the Deep explores the convergence between the real creatures beneath our seas and the monsters, beasts and beings we have imagined living alongside them for centuries.
For just over two weeks this Spring, Dark Cornwall are donating 100% of their time and creatures to help raise much-needed funds for the Hatchery, supporting the incredible work the team does for the sea life of Cornwall and beyond.
And we want local artists to be part of it.
Together with Dark Cornwall, we’re inviting artists of all ages to take inspiration from the strange, wonderful and occasionally downright bizarre creatures living beneath our seas.
This goes beyond the magnificent crustaceans, but also enigmatic beasts like blennies, anemones, jellyfish, nudibranchs, and just about anything you can find lurking in a rockpool!
Then you add a little dash of fantasy and folklore. Turn them into beasts, monsters and mythical beings that might have crawled straight from the pages of your favourite book of myths and legends. Selected work will become part of Lore of the Deep, exhibited alongside some of Dark Cornwall’s own creatures.
We’ll also have guest speakers and storytelling sprinkled throughout the Easter holidays to bring the experience even more to life.
