Padstow is Cornwall’s best-known foodie destination, largely thanks to chef Rick Stein, whose restaurants and shops are dotted around the harbour. It’s also the starting point for the Camel Trail cycle path and home to the ancient Obby Oss May Day festival.

What are the best things to do in Padstow?

Crabbing off the harbour wall, a visit to The National Lobster Hatchery and a cycle along the Camel Trail (flat, traffic free, and a big hit with families) are the essentials. The foot ferry across to Rock is also a lovely way to see the Camel Estuary from the water, while Camel Creek Family Adventure Park is nearby for rides, indoor play and animal encounters.

Is Padstow busy, and if so, is it still worth visiting?

Padstow is one of Cornwall’s most popular towns – and for good reason. The central streets and the harbour do get crowded during peak summer, but it’s well worth visiting. If you can avoid July and August, it makes a noticeable difference.

Is there parking in Padstow?

Yes, though spaces are limited for the size of the crowds it draws. The main long stay car park is a short walk from the harbour, and arriving early is well worth doing in summer.

How long do you need in Padstow?

Half a day covers the harbour and a dining experience. A full day lets you add a Camel Trail cycle, The National Lobster Hatchery or a boat trip. Camel Creek Family Adventure Park is a day out in its own right, but you could combine it with a trip into Padstow for dinner.

How far is Padstow from Newquay and Truro?

Padstow is around 25 minutes’ drive from Newquay and about 35 to 40 minutes from Truro.
