Newquay is known as the UK’s unofficial surf capital, based around Fistral Beach – often rated one of the best surf spots in the country. As the county’s biggest coastal resort, there’s a fantastic choice of beaches, a lively town centre, and lots of family attractions including Newquay Zoo.

What are the best things to do in Newquay?

Fistral Beach for surfing (or just watching), Towan Beach with its tidal island, and Newquay Zoo are the classics. On the outskirts of town you’ll find plenty more to do including Lappa Valley, Trerice and the South West Coast Path. 

Is Newquay good for beginner surfers?

Absolutely. Several beaches around Newquay, including Fistral and Watergate Bay, have well-established surf schools catering specifically for beginners. Overall the town has more equipment hire, surf outlets and coaching setups than almost anywhere else in Cornwall.

Is Newquay good for families?

Absolutely – families are well catered for at the zoo, aquarium, beaches, Lappa Valley and surrounding attractions. The town also has a vibrant eating out scene with lots of options for families. 

How long do you need in Newquay?

Newquay easily fills two or three days with its concentration of beaches and attractions. However, a single full day covers a beach visit plus one attraction like the zoo.

Is there parking in Newquay?

Yes, with numerous car parks across the town, including several near Fistral and Towan beaches. Arrive early in the busiest months of July and August.

How far is Newquay from Padstow and St Columb?

Newquay is around 25 minutes’ drive from Padstow and about 15 minutes from St Columb.
