Porthcurno is famous for the Minack Theatre, an open air amphitheatre carved into the cliffs with the Atlantic as its backdrop. It’s also home to one of Cornwall’s most beautiful beaches, which was once at the forefront of global communications. 

Is the Minack Theatre in Porthcurno?

Yes, the Minack sits directly above Porthcurno beach, and the theatre grounds and gardens are open to visitors during the day, even outside performance times.

Is Porthcurno beach good for swimming?

Yes, the clear water and gently shelving sand make it popular for a swim, though it’s an open Atlantic beach with occasional strong currents, so it’s worth checking conditions and any flag warnings before going in.

Is Porthcurno good for families?

Yes, there’s plenty for families, with the beach, interactive exhibits and trails at PK Porthcurno Museum of Global Communication, and The Minack Theatre. However, it’s worth knowing the walk down to the beach (and back up again) is steep, and the Minack Theatre involves a fair number of steps, so it’s not the easiest visit for prams or limited mobility without a bit of planning.

How long do you need in Porthcurno?

Half a day covers the beach and a look around the Minack. Add a performance, the PK Porthcurno Museum of Global Communications, or a trip to Land’s End and you’ll need a full day.

Is there parking in Porthcurno?

Yes, there are car parks at the beach and the Minack Theatre. However, both fill quickly on sunny days and performance evenings.

How far is Porthcurno from Penzance?

Porthcurno is around 15 minutes’ drive from Penzance, making it an easy add on to a day exploring West Cornwall.
