A place like no other, the world-famous Minack Theatre is a must-see for visitors to Cornwall.

Perched on rugged cliffs overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay, you might think ancient Greeks had carved it from the granite. In fact, less than a century ago it was a rough gully of gorse and heather dropping dizzily down to the sea.

Today, you can discover the extraordinary story of Rowena Cade, the woman behind its creation and experience the magic of live performance in this iconic space.

The Minack stages a full programme of live performances throughout the year. Visitors are welcome to explore the dramatic site and enjoy the glorious sub-tropical gardens when there is no performance.

The Minack is very popular and advance booking is essential for performances and visits.

From November – February The Minack offers free entry to some cornish postcodes.

"Minack Theatre - An experience not to be missed. An iconic location not to be missed. A wonderful feat of construction which creates a spell binding atmosphere. The view across the surrounding bay and sea is magical. We visited and were absorbed by the theatre company rehearsing on stage, so much so we booked tickets to return and watch the full performance, an opportunity that couldn't be missed. The stairs are steep, and anybody having mobility issues will find it difficult but the staff were super helpful. If your going at night be warned it can get a little fresh so wrap up warm and also a water proof or cushion as most seats are grass covered. Certainly an excellent night out."

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to book in advance for a visit or can I just turn up?

Admission to visit the Minack is by timed booking slot only. Advance booking is essential in holiday periods and strongly advised at all other times.

What does a visit include?

A visit ticket to the Minack is an opportunity to explore the site and exhibition. Sometimes you may be able to watch a rehearsal on stage, and on selected mornings an actor/interpreter tells the story of how the Minack was built. Tickets for scheduled performances must be purchased separately.

Do I need to buy a ticket to visit the Minack cafe?

Yes. The Minack cafe is located inside the theatre, so you will need a ticket to visit it. Snacks are also available in the car park.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs on short leads are welcome during visiting hours. Only trained assistance/service dogs are admitted to performances.

Is there accessible seating?

The theatre has an accessible balcony for those with limited mobility. There is also a hearing loop. For full details of access provision, visit the Minack website.
