About Bodmin & Wenford Railway

Discover the nostalgia of steam travel with a journey back in time on Cornwall’s leading full-size railway operated by steam locomotives. Relax in style and enjoy a leisurely 13-mile round trip, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of a bygone age, as the era of a Cornish branch line in the 1950s is revealed.

Indulge in a cream tea on the train or lunch at one of the station cafes, or book onto one of the Railway’s evening Murder Mystery trains during the summer months. Driver experience courses are also available on selected days – driving a train is something you will never forget!

A Seasonal Attraction

The Railway varies its opening dates outside of peak season, so please check their website for the most up to date information. They’ll be open on selected dates throughout December for the Santa Special trains, and then closed during January and February 2022. They will reopen on 15 March 2022.

During March to October 2022, check the website for opening days. The Railway closes on Mondays, except for some Bank Holidays. They will close again in November 2022.

Essential Information

Visitors are strongly encouraged to book their trip in advance - especially during the summer months, and on rainy days as the Railway can get very busy at these times.

Visitors should arrive half an hour before they are due to travel to allow themselves enough time to park, collect their tickets and buy any food that they wish to purchase. Those visitors who have bought tickets online still need to check in on arrival with the booking office. If you want to travel on a quieter day, the weekends tend to be less busy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book tickets in advance?
No you don’t, but we do strongly encourage it especially during the summer and when it is raining as we can get very busy.
Are dogs welcome?
Yes, we welcome dogs on board for paws-on-the-floor travel.
Where does the train go?
We are a bit different in that we run over two branch lines. Our main station is at Bodmin General. One branch line goes to Bodmin Parkway and back, whilst the other goes to Boscarne Junction and back. When you book your ticket you are automatically booked to do both branch lines.
Is there car parking on site?
Yes we have a free car park on site, although it does get full on busy days. The closest alternative car park is Victoria Square Car Park which is a 5 to 10 minute walk and is pay and display.
