The stunning Cornish coastline around Pendeen was once at the heart of the Cornish mining industry, providing jobs and community around the tin and copper mines. Today, the award winning Geevor Tin Mine gives visitors an opportunity to visit a real mine and learn what life was like for a Cornish miner.

Put your hard hat on and explore the mine buildings with their magnificent mining machinery; get interactive in the Hard Rock Museum; discover how the rock was mined and brought up from 600 metres below the ground to be processed in the Mill.

Go underground into the 18th century Wheal Mexico Mine! Pan for ‘gold’ and gems and take home your treasures and enjoy the rugged and dramatic coastal scenery of West Cornwall from Geevor’s clifftop location.

See a former working mine left exactly as it looked on the day the mine closed its doors for the final time and imagine what the life of a Cornish miner was truly like.

Frequently asked questions

How long do you recommend for a visit to Geevor Tin Mine?

We would recommend a minimum of two hours to come to Geevor and enjoy everything we have to offer. We are a large site with lots to experience and the Count House Café is a firm favourite with many. Not to mention the South West Coast Path being on our doorstep. Some visitors have stayed for 4 hours and said this still wasn’t enough time for them! You could easily make a day of it.

Can I explore at my own pace?

Absolutely! That is what is so enjoyable about Geevor. All of our surface buildings and the Hard Rock Museum are open all day and can be visited in your own time at a pace that is right for you. If you want to adventure underground into Wheal Mexico then this open between 10am – 4pm. At quieter times of the year we may be operating guided tours our reception team will advise you on entry to the site.

What kind of clothing should I wear to visit Geevor Tin Mine?

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear to visit Geevor. The site is high on the Cornish cliffs, overlooking the Atlantic, and can be subject to the whims of Cornish weather! Closed footwear is advised, as we are a former working mine with uneven ground.

Is Geevor Tin Mine accessible?

As Geevor was a working mine, we do understand the importance of ensuring accessibility for our visitors around as much of our site as possible. We have made every effort to ensure visitors in wheelchairs can access many parts of the Geevor site. The Hard Rock Museum, shop and café are fully accessible as are some of the key buildings. Please visit our website and view the accessibility guide for more information.

Are dogs allowed on site?

We welcome dogs across the entire mine site, with the exception of the underground mine. If you are visiting with a dog you can take turns going underground this is a small part of the overall visit, please do not leave dogs in your car. Assistance dogs are welcome across the whole site without exception. We provide drinking water for them at various places across the site.

Do you have a Cafe?

Yes we have a wonderful cafe on site. The Counthouse Cafe team have operated here at Geevor for over 25 years. Please check out their website for more information.

What time is last entry to the site?

November to March is 3pm and April to October it's 4pm
