Penzance is a historic harbour town best known as the gateway to St Michael’s Mount, Land’s End and the ferry crossing to the Isles of Scilly. It’s also home to the Jubilee Pool, the UK’s largest surviving art deco seawater lido.

What are the best things to do in Penzance?

St Michael’s Mount is the headline attraction, reachable on foot at low tide or by boat at high tide, alongside the Jubilee Pool, the harbour and promenade, and the neighbouring artists’ village of Newlyn. Penzance also makes a great base for day trips to Land’s End and the far west of Cornwall.

Can I walk to St Michael's Mount from Penzance?

Not directly from Penzance itself. The Mount is reached from the village of Marazion, a short drive or bus ride away, where a causeway is walkable at low tide and a small ferry runs at high tide.

Is Penzance good for families?

Yes: the Jubilee Pool has both a heated section and free open water swimming, the promenade and harbour are lovely and easy to explore on foot, and St Michael’s Mount is a genuine highlight for most children.

How long do you need in Penzance?

Half a day covers the town and Jubilee Pool. A full day lets you add St Michael’s Mount or a drive out towards Land’s End.

Is there parking in Penzance?

There are several car parks around the harbour and town centre, and limited parking along the promenade. 

How far is Penzance from St Ives and Porthcurno?

Penzance is about 15 to 20 minutes’ drive from St Ives and roughly 15 minutes from Porthcurno, making it a great base for exploring West Cornwall.
