Kurt Jackson ‘The Sea. The Camel. The Fish.’ Exhbition at the National Lobster Hatchery

Posted in Events by Lauren Webb on 3rd March 2023
17th March – End of April – Kurt Jackson Exhibition
“The sea gives and takes, providing us with food, space, recreation and oxygen and in return we should give something back– if only respect and care. The fishermen harvest lobsters and here at the hatchery young lobsters are reared to be released off shore. Give and take.
If allowed to work and perform as it should the estuary, the sea, the oceans are self-regulating, working for one and all, maintaining a myriad of lifeforms and organisms, a huge complex but fragile network of life in balance.
Padstow sits at the mouth of the Camel Estuary that feeds into the Atlantic Ocean, here we can witness at first hand amazing rich marine habitats that host dazzling arrays of aquatic life.”
Kurt Jackson has known the River Camel most of his life; a childhood in Delabole was spent visiting Polzeath, Rock, Daymer Bay, learning to swim, fish and sail on the river; then in his 20’s and 30’s he lived in Boscastle, North Cornwall – the formative years of his career, establishing his artistic path on the upper reaches of the Camel.
Later having moved further west to St Just in Penwith, Jackson has often made frequent return visits to the Camel to rework familiar stretches of the river for his many exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Included with entry and existing annual passes.
