Jubilee Sea Swim 2024--1449

NEWLYN TO JUBILEE POOL SWIM RETURNS FOR 2025

Posted in Uncategorised by Eve Butler on 23rd August 2025

The Newlyn to Jubilee Pool swim will take place on Saturday 23rd August 2025, part sponsored by Yallah Coffee. Well known in Penzance and West Cornwall, it attracts some of the region’s finest swimmers and enthusiasts to participate. In keeping with the pools community focus this will be a non-profit event with any proceeds going back into the pool to help safeguard its’ future.

The ‘Short Race’ – for Under 16s and adults – starts at 4pm; and the Adult Open Mile Race starts at 5pm for the competitive swimmers aiming to complete the distance in under 25 minutes. The ‘Original mile’ for those not wishing to compete, will kick off at 5:40pm. Swimmers are professionally timed. Participants will start from the water by Newlyn Green, swim the length of Penzance Promenade and finish on the Slipway by The Jubilee Pool.

Dating back to before the 1940s and originally known as the “long distance swim” it was the closing event of a swim gala hosted at Jubilee Pool. Originally, swimmers would dive off Newlyn Harbour wall and climb a ladder over the wall into to the Jubilee Pool at the finish.

Kerry Blewett-Hill, Event Organiser: “Having grown up swimming this race, it’s great to have it back in the calendar. It’s a great end of summer social and gives everyone a training focus for the year. It’s been a lovely summer so far and plenty of people in the water getting fit for it. With the addition of the competitive wave this year, is going to make for some very close racing! Looking forward to watching everyone enjoying the swim, whichever distance they undertake.”

Nicola Murdoch, CEO of Jubilee Pool says ‘The Jubilee Pool team feels so privileged to be hosting this popular community event again this year, and we are committed to making it a permanent fixture on our events calendar, after bringing it back after a short hiatus in 2022. Swimming and water sports are such a big part of Cornish life and as the country’s largest seawater lido, we are the perfect venue for this fantastic community event. Huge thanks must go to our part sponsor, Yallah Coffee for supporting the Jubilee Sea Swim this year.”

There will be an awards ceremony at the pool from 7 pm with medals given to Category winners. Swimmers, friends and spectators are welcome to enjoy music, pasties from Annes pasties and a drink at the Jubilee Pool’s café.
