Join Bodmin Jail in celebrating the Jubilee

Posted in News by Lauren Webb on 9th May 2022

To celebrate this momentous year in history, The Bodmin Jail Hotel and Attraction are marking Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with series of events across the extended bank holiday weekend.

From May 23rd The Queen Victory Heritage Tour will look at the amazing women who came before our extraordinary monarch. This tour looks at the ground-breaking reign of Queen Victoria, the fortunes of women in the 1800s and the crimes committed by them.  The Victorian age is bound to enrage, provoke and inspire the queen in us all.

Continuing the bank holiday celebrations, the Bodmin Jail’s talented team of chefs have curated an exquisite Afternoon Tea menu to celebrate the English pastime and to embrace street party celebrations of old. The Jubilee High Tea is a wonderful menu of amazing cakes, scones and finger sandwiches, while The Platinum High Tea is topped off with a glass of Champagne and a further selection of cakes. A special children’s High Tea is also available.

Our High Tea celebration will be served in the courtyard, surrounded by over 250 years of history. There will be three sittings daily running from June 3-5 at 12, 2 and 4. Afternoon Tea will be served under canvas in case the Cornish weather does not get the memo about this historic weekend. With fabulous cakes and sandwiches worthy of the occasion, this afternoon tea is one of the tastiest ways to mark the Platinum Jubilee and honour our Monarch.  Certainly, one not to be missed!

As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, you can also join our renowned Paranormal Manager for a private tea leaf or tarot reading and see what the fates could have in store for you.

After significant investment the former Victorian jail has been brought into the 21st century. The jail had fallen into disrepair and was only a few years away from being pulled down, until saved by its current owners. It is now a 4* boutique hotel and state of the art visitor attraction. The “Dark Walk” recreates Cornwall’s dark past – featuring key characters which brings Cornwall’s dramatic past into sharp focus. There is really nothing else like it in the whole of Cornwall, or indeed the country. A most fitting place to celebrate our county, country and Queen.
