It’s Gold for the Minack Theatre in their anniversary year!

Posted in News by Lauren Webb on 8th April 2022

The Minack Theatre was thrilled to win Gold in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category at the South West Tourism Awards last night (7 April 2022).

The Minack was the only Cornish entry shortlisted in the category, against stiff competition from Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm (Somerset), Moors Valley Country Park and Forest (Dorset) and the Dorset Museum.

The Minack Theatre won Gold in the Cornwall Tourism Awards last month but to win recognition throughout the South West as a Visitor Attraction is a big accolade, not only for the theatre, but for the overall quality of tourism businesses in the county.  It also comes in the year that the Minack celebrates its 90th anniversary making it an even more remarkable achievement.

Zoë Curnow, Executive Director of the Minack Theatre said, “Winning this award is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all our team at the Minack and their commitment to giving visitors the best possible experience.  The last two years have been immensely challenging for the whole tourism sector and everyone who works in it, so we’re especially grateful for this recognition for what we and the whole of our industry have achieved.

“We would also like to congratulate the other Cornwall winners last night, especially PK Porthcurno, who were awarded Silver in the Small Visitor Attraction category.”

The awards were announced at a live event at Exeter’s Sandy Park yesterday.  Robin Barker, Director of Services for Tourism Ltd, said “What a night!  Tourism is known as ‘the happiness industry’ and last night showed everyone why, with friends, colleagues and competitors all reunited to join in the celebrations after two years of being kept apart. Congratulations to everyone who has continued to excel and innovate despite the countless hurdles.”
