Step into spring with the National Trust in Cornwall: Events in April, May and early June

Across Cornwall, National Trust gardens are filling with colourful spring blooms, and houses are looking tip-top after their intensive winter cleans. There’s loads going on this season from Easter adventure trails and art workshops to guided walks and beach cleans.  

What’s more, every time you experience a National Trust day out, you help care for these special places for future generations.

Cotehele

Oil Painting and knife workshop with Clare Law 

2 April, 10.30am-1.30pm 

Join local artist Clare Law as she shares her skills in this special workshop, suitable for complete beginners to advanced painters. In this workshop, Clare will demonstrate the step-by-step process of painting with oils and a small painting knife. Each participant will get to try her techniques, developed over her career as a professional landscape artist.

Creature Easter at Cotehele 
5-21 April, 10am-4pm 

Go wild on a family-friendly trail with fun activities celebrating the feathery friends, interesting insects and marvellous mammals that live at Cotehele. Have a go at each of the activities dotted around the garden and collect your chocolate egg at the end (both dairy and vegan and Free From options available). 
Price: £3.50 per trail (normal admission charges apply). Booking not required. 

Gwel an Bleujenn 
26 April, 2-3pm 

Help us kick off our Festival of Blossom celebrations at our annual blossom procession. Meet outside Visitor Reception and follow us as we wander through the blossom, enjoy various performances by local groups and give thanks to the flowers and the promise of the fruit that will follow.

Blossom BioBlitz 
27 April, 10am-4pm 

As part of Festival of Blossom, join University of Plymouth for a Blossom BioBlitz in the Mother Orchard at Cotehele. Join us as we take a closer look at the Mother Orchard to uncover a hidden world of amazing orchard wildlife and to help us build a picture of this amazing habitat.

Willow Swallows and Dragonflies workshop 
21 May, 10.30am-1.30pm 

Join local willow artist Jasmine Fassenfelt who will show you how to make swallows and dragonflies out of natural willow. In this three-hour workshop, you will get a feel for how to work with the material and be guided at every stage.

The Kernow Games 
22 May – 1 June, 10am-4pm 

Challenge all the family to Cornish-inspired games around the garden at Cotehele. Try our jam-first cream tea race, challenge each other to see who can catch the most fish, play Cornish Snap and more whilst learning about the Cornish language along the way.

Drawn to the Valley Inspired by Turner 
31 May – 8 June, 11am-4pm 

Visit the Victorian Drawing Room to discover work created by members of Drawn to the Valley that have been inspired by J.M.W Turner and his paintings within the Tamar Valley.

Mosaic Birds workshop 
11 June, 10.30am-1.30pm 

In this three-hour workshop, join Kirsty Freeman as she helps you to design and assemble a hanging bird ornament. Kirsty will guide you through the process of cutting ceramic tiles and crockery with small hand tools to assemble your design.

Glendurgan

Easter Adventures at Glendurgan Garden  
5-21 April (excluding 7th & 14th).10.30-4pm 

Join us at Glendurgan Garden this Easter for a blooming adventure! Follow the Easter Adventures trail map and uncover the hidden wonders of wildflowers nestled throughout the garden. With fun activities for the whole family and a delicious treat waiting at the end, it’s the perfect way to celebrate spring in nature.

May half term at Glendurgan Garden 
24 May-1 June. 10.30am-4pm 

Enjoy a fun-filled adventure in nature this May half term. Collect an activity booklet and pencil from the garden entrance and set off to explore. Take part in a range of engaging challenges such as unleashing your creativity with storytelling, searching for vibrant colours, discovering interesting textures and other hands-on activities. Whether you fancy observing wildlife, going on a wild walk, or making something special from natural finds, there’s plenty to enjoy for all ages.

Garden Tours at Glendurgan Garden 
Once a week, either Thursday or Wednesday, from 27 Feb – 21 May (excluding school holidays). 11am-1pm (5 March: 1.30pm-3.30pm). See website for dates. 

Grow your knowledge of plants with an exclusive in-depth tour through the exotic and playful valleys of Glendurgan Garden.

Lanhydrock

Blossom, Floriography at Lanhydrock  
11 March – 30 April 

Discover ‘the language of flowers’ at Lanhydrock. Throughout the house there will be opportunities to learn the meanings behind the plants and shrubs found in the formal garden and parkland, including an activity of writing a postcard to a someone special.

Easter Trail at Lanhydrock
Join in with the easter activities throughout the formal gardens and second-hand bookshop.

Trelissick

Easter egg hunt at Trelissick      
5 – 21 April, 10am-4.30pm 

This spring, treat the whole family to a world of adventure at Trelissick on an Easter trail. Make your way along the trail and find activities for the whole family. The trail takes place between 5 – 21 April 2025, from 10am to 4.30pm, with last entry at 4pm, so come along and explore the beautiful garden of Trelissick.

Truro Art Society exhibition at Trelissick  
3 – 18 May, 10am-4.30pm 

Trelissick will be hosting an exhibition from Truro Art Society between 3 – 18 May in the stables. The exhibition, featuring work from a number of local amateur and professional artists, will include a range of media in the display.

May half term at Trelissick 
24 May – 1 June, 10am-4.30pm 
Take part in a trail through the garden that celebrates 70 years since Ida Copeland gifted the National Trust the Trelissick garden. Get involved with the celebrations in the house to share what Trelissick means to you.

Trengwainton

Easter egg hunt at Trengwainton 
6–21 April (closed Fridays and Saturdays, except Good Friday). 10am to 5pm 

Come along and explore the beautiful garden at Trengwainton, make your way along the trail and find activities for the whole family. The trail includes Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and chocolate egg.

May Half Term at Trengwainton 
25 May – 29 May, 1 June (closed Fridays and Saturdays). 10am-5pm. 

Celebrate blossom at Trengwainton by making fallen flower kebabs. Collect a stick from reception and gather fallen flowers as you explore the garden, then pop them in the ground to create a collective piece of wild art.
