Pick your own apples at Cotehele

Posted in Events by Lauren Webb on 25th August 2023

Help collect the harvest from Cotehele’s Mother Orchard and take some of this year’s crop home to enjoy.

Booking not needed. Normal admission charges apply for the venue.
Saturday 9 to Sunday 24 September 2023, 10am – 4pm

We’re inviting our visitors to take part in our annual apple harvest. The Mother Orchard is home to more than 300 trees and 125 different heritage varieties of dessert, culinary and cider apples.
By taking part, you’ll be able to take a selection of these special varieties home with you, while helping us look after the orchards for generations to come.
Bags will be available from visitor reception for a suggested donation of £3 for a small bag. We will also have sacks available for £5.

Our top tips for picking apples: –
– The orchards at Cotehele can be uneven in places, please mind how you go.
– Watch out for biting and stinging insects, they like fruit too.
– Do not climb on the delicate fruit trees, they are old with weak branches.
– Please pick gently without tugging or pulling too hard as this can damage the tree. If the apple easily comes away, then it is ripe. If not, leave on the branch for a bit longer.
– Give all the apples a wash with water when you get home, before consuming.
All small paper bags, suggested donation – £3.00
All hessian bags, suggested donation £5.00
Pick up a bag from Visitor Reception when you arrive.

Please wear sturdy footwear. The orchards at Cotehele can be uneven in places.
Sorry, we only allow assistance dogs within the house, garden and orchards at Cotehele. We do, however, have many miles of woodland paths to explore on the estate where dogs are welcome. Visit our ‘Visiting with Cotehele with your Dog’ page on our website for more details.
