A popular festive event loved by families is set for a final hurrah this December before a Charlestown attraction potentially closes for good.
Since 2019, the Shipwreck Treasure Museum’s Tunnel of Lights extravaganza has become a highly anticipated yuletide tradition with visitors travelling across Cornwall to immerse themselves in the magical event.
Each year a team of talented creatives put together a new seasonal theme, transforming the museum and the labyrinth of historic tunnels beneath it into an immersive festive experience for the young and young at heart to get firmly into the Christmas spirit.
Tens of thousands of twinkling lights always sit at the heart of the event, creating a feast for the senses. This year marks the sixth and final instalment of the Tunnel of Lights, and the team is gearing up to spend many weeks building the event.
Lynné Raubenheimer from the Shipwreck Treasure Museum said:
“It’s fitting that this year’s theme for the Tunnel of Lights is Wham’s iconic festive song “Last Christmas,” as it will be our sixth and sadly final instalment of this amazing event.
However, we’re going out in style and planning our biggest and best Tunnel of Lights yet.
“Inspired by our visitors’ favourite moments from past events, we’ll be recreating some classic moments combined with plenty of new, enchanting scenes and surprises to be discovered. We are excited to welcome our guests to join us on selected dates from the 6th to the 31st of December 2024 for one last dazzling, fabulously festive Tunnel of Lights experience.”
The Tunnel of Lights has just been announced as a finalist in the Tourism Event / Festival of the Year category in this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards. The attraction had already secured a coveted Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2024.
Tickets for the Tunnel of Lights Last Christmas, including discounted early bird tickets available for a limited period, have just been released and can be purchased online by visiting shipwreckcharlestown.com.
