Your chance to ride behind one of Cornwall’s most famous Locomotives.
As part of Lappa Valley’s 50th birthday celebrations in June, the park was delighted to welcome back Zebedee, its flagship engine, to the main 15″ gauge railway after a three-year rebuild.
Zebedee holds a special place in Lappa Valley’s history as its first-ever locomotive. Designed by renowned steam engineer David Curwen, the engine was built specifically for the park. In fact, there are photos of Zebedee, or “Zebs” as she’s affectionately known, helping to build the railway, hauling work trucks and ballast wagons during the early construction days.
For a time, Zebedee was the sole locomotive at Lappa Valley, and her distinctive “Whoosh-pop” noises and charming little whistle have become beloved by generations of visitors.
While Zebedee now shares duties with other steam and diesel locomotives throughout the year, many fans are eager to see her up close and in steam. To celebrate this iconic engine, Lappa Valley will be running Zebedee in regular service over the weekend of September 14th and 15th, 2024.
Zebedee will be running at least every 40 minutes between Benny Halt and East Wheal Rose, offering visitors the chance to admire her restoration and experience the nostalgia she brings to the railway.
