In 1995, Lappa Valley opened our 10 1/4” gauge Newlyn Downs Branchline – with the route following the former GWR line up to the former Mitchell and Newlyn Halt.
It took several years to build the railway as the trackbed had gone untouched since 1963. The original track and locomotive Duke of Cornwall actually came from Carlyon Bay on the south coast, where for many years they delighted thousands of beachgoers with rides.
Earlier this year, we opened a new station for the railway – and in 2025, we’ll be celebrating 30 years of the Newlyn Downs Branchline with a special weekend of memories and maybe a few surprises too.
