Annual apple weekend celebration returns to Trelissick

On 5 and 6 October the annual apple weekend celebration will take place at the National Trust’s Trelissick estate, with activities including a display of over 200 apples, apple identification, folk music and archery.

It’s a chance to celebrate autumn at Trelissick, near Truro, in an orchard where around 70 Cornish varieties, originally planted over 20 years ago, thrive.

“Trelissick has a long history of growing fruit, and the apples are a big part of that,” says Assistant Head Gardener Wella Chubb. “The current orchard of historic, local apples was started in 1993. Apple weekend gives us the opportunity to welcome autumn, celebrate the apple and promote the growth of apples and fruit in the local area.”

In the orchard there will be pruning advice, free archery sessions, seasonal food, folk music, apple games and an apple spotting activity sheet for children.

In the stables there’ll be an apple display, apple identification with the garden team, a small press and traditional garden games for the family to play.

The garden will be open from 10am to 5pm each day, normal admission to Trelissick applies.
