Detritus of the Deep and the Washed-Up Mermaid

Monday – Friday, 11am, 1pm & 3pm.

Detritus of the Deep is a larger-than-life showman, king and master of the sea. Hear this gentle giant’s story of coastal adventures and watch as he magically conjures up wonders from Cornwall’s waters. His friend, the Washed-up Mermaid, sings of our seas and asks us a very important question – can we help them save our oceans?

The show has been created by Hotch Potch Performance for National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Hotch Potch Performance are a Cornwall based outdoor arts company who create spectacular yet intimate works, with a passion for environmental awareness.

Flotsam Mermaid

Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 April, 11am, 1pm & 3pm.

The verdigris mermaid has washed ashore! Is she a simple statue or something more? Come and find Flotsam in the Museum to catch some bubble blowing, tail flipping fun!

Make & Take

Saturday 9 – Sunday 24 April, 12.30pm – 3.30pm

Be inspired by Detritus of the Deep and the Washed-Up Mermaid and create a mask made from recycled items.

Learn all about what you can do for our natural world on the Museum trail. Find them all and win a prize.

Explore 15 galleries over five floors, visit the Monsters of the Deep exhibition, jump aboard boats, climb the 100-foot Lookout Tower, meet boat builders in the Boatbuilding Workshop, go underwater in the Tidal Zone, uncover ocean adventures and survival stories and sail miniature boats on the Waterfront Boat Pool.
