Following success at the prestigious Cornwall Tourism Awards, where Trengwainton’s 2023 Winter Lights event won silver for the Tourism Event/Festival of the Year, the National Trust is looking forward to presenting this year’s event which promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Community is at the heart of the Winter Lights at Trengwainton and this year’s event, running during weekends in December, will feature an expanded route and a number of new lanterns made in collaboration with Tough Dough CIC – a non-profit organisation that works with communities, artists and organisations across Cornwall to make art that celebrates Cornwall’s people, stories and natural environment.
The withy lanterns for the 2024 festivities have been made by Heamoor, Ludgvan and Nancledra schools, as well as children from Trelya, and Penzance Youth Group.
A new lantern from renowned local artist Tony Crosby promises a ‘wow’ moment and lighting by students on the BA(Hons) Technical Theatre Arts course at Falmouth University, led by tutor Paul Joines, will add to the award-winning atmosphere.
Marina Rule, the National Trust’s Visitor Experience Officer at Trengwainton says, ‘One of my favourite things to do at the Winter Lights is simply being in the garden and listening to the excited exclamations as people come upon the lanterns. Standing by the wishing tree is also something special as people of all ages hang a bauble on it and make a Christmas wish.’
CAST café will be back selling their delicious locally sourced food and drink from an outdoor stall and the bookshop and shop will be open for winter reading or buying gifts and treats.
The Winter Lights are on from 29 Nov-1 Dec, 5-8 Dec and 12-15 Dec.
