CATA Tree planting for 50th celebrations

Celebrating 50 years of Cornwall Association of Tourist Attractions

Posted in News by cata on 28th October 2024

This year Cornwall Association of Tourist Attractions (CATA) proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary with a birthday party at the National Trust property, Trelisick.  For five decades, CATA has been at the heart of promoting and supporting Cornwall’s array of visitor destinations, from iconic heritage sites to hidden gems.

The event, which was held on October 9th brought together members, industry experts and past Chairs to celebrate and reminisce on days gone by for Cornwall’s visitor attractions.

Jana Sirova, CATA Chair, Cornish Seal Sanctuary said: ‘It was lovely to see so many people come out to celebrate Cornwall’s attractions, we had the most wonderful day, with inspirational speeches from founder members and past chairs. We’ve got an ambitious program for delivery for 2025, and we’re looking forward to growing our membership and representing the top attractions in the country for years to come. The birthday celebrations were a lovely way to celebrate 50 years of CATA, and the directors were delighted to be invited to plant a tree in the gardens of Trelissick to mark the occasion’.

Since its founding, CATA has united the region’s attractions, creating memorable experiences for millions of residents and visitors to Cornwall. Through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to excellence, CATA continues to enhance Cornwall’s reputation as a leading tourist destination. In the last fifty years CATA has grown from a small group of pioneering attractions to representing over 34 unique sites across Cornwall. From historic landmarks and gardens to theme parks to art galleries, CATA continues to add value to each member and the wider tourism sector.  Members benefit from economies of scale, greater visibility, and collective success through its three core objectives; providing a supportive network and community for the Cornish visitor attraction industry, acting as a voice on behalf of the tourist attractions in Cornwall and promoting the best visitor experiences in Cornwall.

“Being part of CATA has been instrumental in expanding our reach. The collaboration across Cornwall’s top attractions allows us to work together to promote our region and create exceptional experiences for visitors. To mark the celebrations, we got several of the directors together and released 50 baby lobsters at Fistral Beach” says Nicola O’Donnell, Chief Operating Officer, National Lobster Hatchery.

As CATA marks this golden anniversary, it remains committed to its mission of celebrating Cornwall’s unique attractions while fostering innovation and collaboration that will continue to drive the region’s tourism success for years to come.
